Advanced Paddling Camp!  July 30-August 3
9-4pm, Monday to Friday

The Advanced Paddling Camp is for 11-14 year-olds who are ready to work (and play!) toward their ORCKA level 2/3 canoeing certifications.  Our campers start the week with day one at the Canoe Museum, making and painting a souvenir paddle to take home, learning all the woodworking skills required to make a full-sized paddle.  We prep our gear and review safety so we're ready for the rest of the week on the water!  Days 2-5 are based out of the Peterborough Rowing Club. The week's focus is on developing the campers' canoe skills, but as well as ORCKA curriculum, there's also paddling games, soapstone carving, traditional fire-making, plenty of swimming time, a Voyageur Canoe experience, and more!
Prerequisite: ORCKA level 1 (or equivalent; please review the ORCKA Skills Curriculum and contact Karen at education@canoemuseum.ca

Upcoming Course: Provincial Legislation and Trails

This program will provide participants with a broad exposure to the key pieces of legislation they should be aware of in advance of starting to build a trail. This course will be delivered as a one day, full day program. There are several key pieces of legislation in Ontario that affect the development, management and operation of trails. Volunteers and professionals involved in this field should be aware of these pieces of legislation and their relevance to the trails community.

We will address these items through presentations on the legislation and case law, and interactive case studies and discussion to demonstrate the scope of the law and the resulting rights and obligations under the legislation. This course is designed to make trail builders and managers aware of the impact legislations have on the development and management of their trails.
